ACT Prep Available at UW-Parkside

UW-Parkside classes help students best ACT test

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside is prepared to help local high school students prepare for the American College Testing (ACT) exam. The university's Precollege Program offers classes in February and March 2012 specifically covering each test subject. Sessions are available Saturday morning and Sunday afternoon. A separate pre-test session is part of the package.

Classes begin Feb. 25/26 with sessions on English. They continue with a March 3/4 session on reading and a March 10/11 science reasoning class. The sessions conclude March 17/18 with math. During classes, instructors offer test taking tips and strategies to help each student do their very best on "The Test."

A practice ACT test is held Saturday, March 24, from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. with reviews of the results Saturday, March 31, and Sunday, April 1. The 2012 spring ACT Test is April 9, 2011.
UW-Parkside ACT prep classes can benefit first-time test takers or those retaking it to improve their scores. Saturday sessions run from 9 a.m. to noon; Sunday classes are from 1 to 4 p.m.

Cost of the ACT classes is $140 which covers all four classes, the pretest, and review. Advanced registration is encouraged; onsite registration is available.

For more information, call the UW-Parkside Precollege Program at (262) 595-2176 or 595-2550.

Colleges That Change Lives Event

Students, please consider attending this great event in Chicago on Sunday, August 26, 2012! There are two locations: Renaissance Shaumburg Convention Center Hotel at 12:00 and Chicago Marriott Naperville at 5:00.

"Each Colleges That Change Lives program begins with an enlightening 30-minute panel presentation on completing a college search today. We promise to not bore you with a session about how to apply for college, what to expect during a campus visit, and so forth.

Rather, we will share with you the latest research on specific campus characteristics and learning components that lead to the most successful college experience. We will challenge you to view popular college rankings as just one measure of quality among many, and encourage you to make the college search process a well-informed journey that leads to the best possible outcome: finding the best college fit—one that could be life changing.

Immediately after the panel presentation, the college fair begins, lasting approximately 1.5 hours. Students and families will be able to collect information from and speak directly with admission representatives from the colleges and universities that inspired noted education reporter and former New York Times education editor Loren Pope to write the book Colleges That Change Lives."

The CTCL events are free to the public, and pre-registration is not required.

UW-Parkside Symposium

Parents and students are invited to the UW-Parkside Symposium for Undergraduate Research and Creativity Activity. The symposium is scheduled for Friday, April 27, 2012 in the Student Center. There is also an Evening Special Music Event on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 7:30 pm featuring the UW-Parkside Jazz Combo with Russ Johnson, Trumpet.

We do not have school that day due to Parent-Teacher-Student Conferences on April 25 and 26, however, this would be a great opportunity for students to experience high level college academics and activities!
